Linseed Oil Paint White (Gysinge)

Linseed Oil Paint White is a ready-mixed, softly warm white linseed oil paint, pigmented with titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. In Sweden, white linseed oil paint began to be used during the 18th century, primarily indoors in manor houses and urban environments, where it was an expensive and exclusive product. Lead white was previously used as a pigment, but it was toxic and difficult to handle. During the 19th century, lead white was gradually replaced by zinc white, making white paint more common on exterior woodwork and windows as well. It was not until the 20th century, with the introduction of titanium dioxide, that white linseed oil paint became a common choice for façades.

Gysinge’s linseed oil paint is manufactured in our own factory from boiled cold-pressed linseed oil and pigments, without the addition of solvents.

The paint has a semi-matt finish and is suitable for both interior and exterior use on wood, sheet metal and iron. It adheres well to both new surfaces and previously painted surfaces, and works in both dry and humid environments. When freshly applied, the paint is glossy but develops a semi-matt finish after a few weeks, depending on the weather and the substrate.

Outdoors, the surface becomes matt primarily on south-facing surfaces, where UV radiation breaks down the linseed oil. This may cause the colour to lighten slightly, particularly with darker shades.

Repainting is generally not necessary until after 8–15 years, depending on exposure. The linseed oil paint works equally well on new and old surfaces, and the patina that develops over time gives the painted surface a natural and beautiful character.

Use: Interior, exterior.

Coverage: 12–15 m²/litre.

Drying time: Indoors – dust-dry after one day and ready for recoating after two days at normal room temperature. Outdoors – dust-dry after approximately one day and ready for recoating after two days under recommended painting conditions.
