Roslagsmahogny is a classic non-smudging tar solution for treating outdoor wood. It has a naturally matte finish that allows the wood's structure and grain to show through, providing a lively expression with character and depth, suitable for both older and newer wooden buildings.
Roslagsmahogny Lamp Black is based on the classic recipe with equal parts of 100% pure wood tar, boiled cold-pressed linseed oil, and white spirit, making it both water-repellent and weather-resistant. It is particularly well-suited for untreated or previously tarred wood but also works excellently on older pressure-treated timber that has been exposed for at least two years. Coverage is approximately 4–10 m² per liter depending on the substrate's absorbency. Apply with a brush. Roslagsmahogny requires some maintenance over time, especially on surfaces exposed to strong sun and weather.
Gysinge's Roslagsmahogny is available in two colors, Natural Brown and Lamp Black. The natural brown variant can be pigmented with any pigment if another color is desired. Surfaces treated with Roslagsmahogny can, if necessary, be overpainted with other tar-based paint. This type of treatment has been used for centuries to protect exposed wooden surfaces such as veranda floors, stairs, jetties, outhouse doors, and boats. Iron fittings such as gate hinges and nail heads also receive effective rust protection.
Please note that since Roslagsmahogny Lamp Black contains 100% pure wood tar, which is a natural product, the color may vary between different production batches. For a uniform color, you should always check that the cans come from the same production batch. The color is also naturally affected by sunlight and weather conditions. If the project spans several seasons, a certain color difference may occur even when using paint from the same production.
