Italian Red Distemper is a classic red, matte distemper paint with a color reminiscent of traditional Falu red paint. It has a slightly darker and deeper tone than our own Red Ochre Distemper, also known as Gysinge Red, which leans more towards a light brick red. Red distemper paints have been used in Sweden for several hundred years and are strongly associated with cottages, farms, and manor houses. Historically, the pigment originated from iron oxides, and the paint's long tradition has made it an integral part of the Swedish landscape's visual cultural heritage. Our Italian Red Distemper is pre-mixed and ready to use. NOTE! The color reproduction on screen does not 100% match
Gysinge's distemper paint for outdoor use is manufactured in our own factory from pigments, stone-ground rye flour, and water according to historical recipes. Linseed oil is added to all colors except Red Ochre Distemper without linseed oil. It is easy to apply, provides an opaque surface, and is simple to maintain and repaint. Distemper paint works excellently on unplaned timber and untreated facades. However, it should not be used on planed wood or on surfaces previously painted with oil paint or plastic paint.
