Linen tow is a pure natural product consisting of 100% linen fiber. Linen fibers can both absorb and release moisture (breathe), which means that any moisture can be managed and transported within the construction, a unique property compared to synthetic insulation materials. Linen tow is also pleasant to work with, providing a good working environment.
The structure of the tow makes it superior for caulking compared to other insulation materials, especially in tight joints. Thin and sharp tools can be used, such as our caulking irons. It's easy to split the tow strip to achieve the desired thickness, and the strip can also be partially stretched if needed.
When timbering, the linen tow provides good insulation between the logs. The tow strip should be adjusted so that the space in the long groove is filled, but the tow must not protrude and be visible when the timbering is complete. The strip should also not be too thick, but allow the edges of the upper log to meet the wood of the lower log.
