Linseed oil paint green umber 15%

Linseed oil paint Green Umber 15% is a pre-mixed, classic warm grey linseed oil paint with green umber mixed with white. This colour was particularly popular in the 19th century for painting windows, carpentry, and facades. NOTE! The colour reproduction on the screen does not 100% correspond to reality.

When painting corner boards and architraves on wooden houses from the 18th to the 20th century, it is good to know that the degree of tinting of the white paint varied during different eras. Most common was 30% green umber in the 18th century, which gives a distinct limestone grey shade. During the 19th century, the fashion lightened, and the "white" colour often ended up around 15% green umber. Around the turn of the 20th century, however, a light, soft white was the height of fashion, corresponding to 2% green umber.

Gysinge's linseed oil paint is manufactured in our own factory from boiled cold-pressed linseed oil and pigment, without the addition of solvents.

The paint is semi-matte and suitable for painting both indoors and outdoors on wood, sheet metal, and iron. It adheres well to both new surfaces and old previously painted surfaces, and works in both dry and damp environments. When newly painted, the paint is glossy but will matt down to a semi-matte finish after a few weeks, depending on weather and substrate.

Outdoors, the surface will matt down primarily in south-facing positions where UV radiation breaks down the linseed oil, which can cause the colour to lighten slightly, especially on dark colours.

Repainting is only needed after 8–15 years, depending on exposure. Linseed oil paint works equally well on new and old surfaces, and the patina that develops gives a natural and beautiful character.

Drying time: Indoors – dries after one day, re-coatable after two. For outdoors – dries after approx. two days, re-coatable after three.
