In the bottom drawer of the "birong" cabinet, life's treasures are stored. Well hidden and carefully folded between starched linen cloths with hand-embroidered monograms. An old train ticket, a cherished invitation, and a paper banknote from bygone times.
The BIRONG pattern is inspired by the craft tradition in Ostrobothnia, Finland. The word "birong" was formerly a common Finland-Swedish term for a chest of drawers, and a "birong" cabinet was a large cabinet with pull-out drawers at the bottom. On Björkö in the Vaasa archipelago, among other places, people have decorated their cabinets with symmetrical floral decorations throughout the ages. This type of furniture doesn't apologize, but rather asserts itself in the room. So too does the BIRONG wallpaper with its magnificent, medallion-like repeat.
The BIRONG wallpaper is a non-woven wallpaper, screen-printed using traditional methods at Ulricehamns Tapetfabrik in Sweden. The material is certified according to ÖKO-Tex standard 100 and consists of FSC-certified paper pulp and recycled synthetic fibers from PET bottles. The wallpaper is dimensionally stable and easy to use. Only water-based paints and varnishes have been used in production, free from PVC, heavy metals, and other substances harmful to the environment.
