Wood tar treats the wood surface and gives it a beautiful, natural luster where the wood's own color, grain, and structure clearly emerge, creating a vibrant expression. Over time, the treated surface changes under the influence of light and weather, evolving from a warm golden amber shimmer to a deep brownish-gray patina. The wood tar can also be tinted to other colors to suit preferences. It is a timeless surface treatment that both protects and enhances the natural beauty of the wood.

Wood tar has been used for centuries outdoors as a protective surface on wooden roofs, shingle roofs, gates, and other exposed wooden details. It penetrates the substrate and creates a water-repellent surface that allows the wood to breathe. Traditionally also used on fences, boats, farm implements, and ironwork that need protection against rust. Suitable for both new and previously tarred wood, as well as planed and unplaned surfaces. Tar is a natural material and very durable; correctly applied, it provides long-lasting protection that can last for decades.

Wood tar is temperature-sensitive and softens with heat, which is why treatment should be carried out at an appropriate outdoor temperature. A new tarred surface should be coated annually for the first few years until a stable protective film has built up. After that, maintenance can be spaced out depending on weather conditions and direction. A south-facing facade wears out faster than a north-facing side. Only overpaint with other tar-based products, as the principle applies: once tar, always tar.

Coverage is approximately 1 liter per square meter on new or highly absorbent surfaces and 2 to 6 square meters per liter for retarring. Apply with a stiff-bristled brush. Thinning can be done with heat, for example in a water bath between 30 and 50 degrees Celsius, or in some cases with methylated spirits. Tar does not dry in the traditional sense but gets a dry surface when the temperature drops. Storage time is virtually unlimited, and the product can withstand freezing temperatures. Brushes can conveniently remain in the can.

Color: Wood tar gives a color tone ranging from light warm brown to deep brownish-gray patina, depending on the wood type.

Application: Outdoors, for new and previously tarred wood. Suitable for wood paneling, roofs, fences, etc.

Coverage: 4–10 sqm/liter.

Drying time: From one day up to two weeks depending on the weather.
